"I live in a beautiful forested place in Mendocino County, where we are fortunate to have a pond with koi. They are to me, as well as to people of their native Japan, a source of great pleasure and a symbol of peace and tranquility. I hope my interpretation of them in this "Koi and Meditation Pond Series" of paintings conveys that feeling.
These images are part of my recent body of work about water and water life. Still or moving, I am attracted to water as it resides in Nature. I have water dreams and love to swim, to be under water, and to spend time by the pond watching its surface change with the light and the seasons. Through my paintings I attempt to express and share my love and reverence for our natural world. Perhaps my work will inspire enhanced appreciation in others.
A native of Santa Rosa, I have been an artist most of my life. I work in oil and acrylics in a style of contemporary realism, and have a background in architectural draftsmanship. In addition to the waterscapes I paint portraits, landscapes, figurative, still life and architectural vignettes. I enjoy experimenting with color and the play of light on a subject. I will consider commissions."
