A complete guide for hosting your special day at the MacCallum House in Mendocino

Mendocino, on California’s beautiful north coast with its sandy beaches and rugged headlands, has long been a haven for romantic getaways and honeymoon vacations, making it the perfect setting for large and small weddings. MacCallum House provides the scenic beauty of the Pacific Ocean and a beautifully restored Victorian mansion bed and breakfast inn as a backdrop for your special day. With two acres of gardens, expansive lawns, a bar and restaurant and distinctive rooms, MacCallum House is the perfect location for your destination wedding. In choosing MacCallum House you can keep your family and friends nearby by reserving the rooms on the main property exclusively for your guests. Also included with our rooms is a gourmet breakfast.


Using MacCallum House facilities for your wedding is an experience like no other. The elegant reception tent on our east lawn is draped and lit according to your wedding theme and colors. The dining rooms are quintessential Mendocino Victorian with three river stone, wood-burning fireplaces, views of the ocean and a full-service bar. Following the ceremony you can celebrate knowing your guests’ rooms are only steps away.

Planning & Coordination

Our in-house wedding coordinator will help direct and oversee all aspects of the wedding, including coordination with outside vendors such as photographers, florists, DJs, etc. The coordinator is responsible for the development and execution of your event time line. They will be available via phone or e-mail throughout the planning process, and on site on your wedding day.

Our planning services include a meeting with our executive chef to create a custom menu paired with wines.

We also include a custom printed menu for each guest at your reception.

Guest Arrival Reception
(usually held the night before the wedding)

The MacCallum House arrival reception is a lovely way to welcome all your family and friends as they arrive in Mendocino. It is a complimentary service provided by MacCallum House allowing you and your guests to enjoy appetizers and beverages in our gardens for an hour. You are welcome to upgrade this option to include more appetizers from our Café, and full bar, or to extend the length of the event.
  • Guests not staying at the MacCallum House will be welcome at this event.
  • Each MacCallum House Inn guest receives a two-glass beverage credit
    (wine, beer, Sonoma Pear Cider Sparkler, soda or bottled water)
  • Cheese and fruit platter
  • One hour of service provided by professional MacCallum House staff
  • A full bar can be provided upon request at an additional charge
Event Spaces

South Dining Room

The South Dining Room can accommodate parties of up to 28 guests. The dark, wood-paneled walls and river stone fireplace create the perfect setting for hosting your closest family and friends for an intimate gathering.
MacCallum House Restaurant and Grey Whale Bar

The bar and restaurant are an ideal venue for hosting groups as large as 75 guests. This rental includes exclusive, private use of our two formal dining rooms, each with a river stone fireplace, as well as the Grey Whale Bar and Café, which includes an ocean view sun porch café, a wrap-around veranda and a sitting room and bar. There are no time restrictions at the MacCallum House.
Reception Tent on the MacCallum House East Lawn

The MacCallum House white tent can accommodate up to 200 guests. The rock wall gardens and the charming landscaped grounds are incorporated into the tent decor. The tent is elegantly decorated and features three levels of lighting including five candlelit chandeliers, a dance floor, fabric draping, and beautifully set tables for dining. There are no time restrictions; however, amplified music is only allowed in the tent until 10:00 pm. After 10:00 pm we offer private use of the restaurant and bar for cocktails and socializing or for more dancing, so your festivities can be continued inside as late as you'd like.
MacCallum House Suites

The MacCallum House Suites can be rented in its entirety for wedding parties, family reunions and meetings. It's a perfect choice for family-size weddings — stylish yet cozy and intimate. This exceptional property has everything you need and extras you haven't imagined — spacious rooms with spa tubs and fireplaces, meeting area, comfortable lounge for gathering, airy commercial kitchen to do your own cooking and/or have a special meal catered by our chef, and balconies with views of the ocean and Mendocino Village.
Reception Food

It is our mission to serve you the highest quality regional food in season. Our produce & grains are organic; the meats are sustainably raised. In selecting ingredients for our menus, we partner with those committed to environmental and social responsibility

Reception or Rehearsal Dinner in the MacCallum House Restaurant South Dining Room

The South Dining Room is the perfect option for a small, intimate reception dinner for up to 28 guests. All food will be prepared from scratch in the MacCallum House kitchen with an emphasis on regional, organic ingredients. Professional wait service will be provided by the MacCallum House staff.

  • Your custom designed menu includes: a three-course plated meal with: a salad, house made sourdough bread, choice of two entrées and one vegetarian entrée, dessert, and late night food

  • A customizable bar complimented by local wines and non-alcoholic selection
  • The MacCallum House linens, flatware, glassware and votive candles
  • Custom menu printing for each guest
  • A meeting with the executive chef to create a custom menu paired with wines

Restaurant weddings require all 19 rooms on the Main Property to be rented by the wedding party on the night of the wedding. (Exceptions may be made depending on the scope and duration of the event.)

Tented Wedding Reception on the MacCallum House East Lawn

  • Exclusive use of the white wedding reception tent on the MacCallum House east lawn (up to 200 people)
  • Your custom designed menu includes: an hour of passed appetizers, and plated service featuring: salad, house made sourdough bread, choice of two entrées and one vegetarian entrée, dessert, and late night food
  • Professional wait staff service provided by MacCallum House
  • A customized bar complimented by local wines and non-alcoholic selections
  • White wooden padded chairs
  • Formal table settings: cloth napkins, votive candles, flatware and glassware
  • Custom lighting design, including chandeliers and candles
  • Customizable tent pole dressings and drapery
  • Heaters
  • Dance floor
  • Stage for a band (if needed)
  • Assistance with tent decoration
